Blessed Is the Man – Scripture Song from Psalm 1

I am always appreciative of songs that are direct quotes of Scripture.

This is one of those:

Psalm 1 has been put to music in the song “Blessed Is the Man.” It is a song based on the words from Psalm 1 – A great passage of Scripture for young people too!

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in His law doth he meditate day and night.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Ps. 1:1-3

Here is a video of a group of men singing this tune.

Missions’ Song – Send Me, I Will Gladly Go

The following is a song that has blessed my heart numerous times.

With the approach of fall, many individuals are preparing for missions’ conference time or missionaries who will be visiting.

This song has a powerful message, accompanied by an uplifting tune.

May it encourage your heart!

(I have searched high and low for the music and still have been unable to find where this song originated. If anyone knows the source, please leave a message in the comments below.)

How to Share Audio/Samples with Your Choir

If you’re techie, this may be a solution you can utilize to get audio samples easily to your whole choir:

I saw one church utilize this and liked the idea.

1.) If you have access to your church’s website, create a page called “choir.”
2.) List the upcoming weeks’ choir songs by date.
3.) Provide a link (either to YouTube or to the actual product page sample)

This idea came from https://www.whbcomaha.org/ministries-1/choir

Alternative ideas:

I’ve seen a choir director utilize Google calendar to notify of upcoming songs.

“Old-school”: distribute audio recordings during choir (make sure not to violate copyright law)

Are You Washed in the Blood – Great Doctrinal Song

low angle photo of concrete cross under clouds

Have you ever considered the doctrine in this song?

“Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing pow’r..
Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour…

Are your garments spotless?
Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?”

Elisha Hoffman

Incredible, incredible depth – if you think of those words . . .

Perhaps how many in the congregation are truly not “washed in the blood.” (Perhaps not “trusting in His grace…”)

How absolutely convicting, how emphatic!

“Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin…

There’s a fountain flowing for the soul unclean,

O be washed in the blood of the Lamb!”

Elisha Hoffman

What an incredible song! What an incredible message!!

Most hymnals should (hopefully!) contain it

Songs about Death and Resurrection of Christ

In preparation for the time of year when many churches have a greater focus on Christ’s death and resurrection, the following are several songs that are immense in meaning concerning the death or resurrection of Christ.

Not My Will (Majesty Hymns #408)

Deals with Christ choosing not to follow His own will, but the Father’s.

Incredible reflection on the Scripture passage as well as excellent reminder for our lives in choosing God’s will over our own desires.

(sample audio link)

My Jesus Fair

This song is an excellent piece that deals with Christ’s sacrifice for our sins.

If you ponder long on the words, you will weep.

Music setting goes well with the lyrics.

Other popular songs about the crucifixion/resurrection of Christ:

Come to the Cross

Alas and Did My Savior Bleed

Lyrics are deep in meaning.

Wounded for Me (appropriate for Communion services as well)
