We Rest on Thee

This is neat!

Here are the words:

We rest on Thee, our Shield and our Defender!
We go not forth alone against the foe;
Strong in Thy strength, safe in Thy keeping tender,
We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.
Strong in Thy strength, safe in Thy keeping tender,
We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.

Yes, in Thy Name, O Captain of salvation!
In Thy dear Name, all other names above;
Jesus our Righteousness, our sure Foundation,
Our Prince of glory and our King of love.
Jesus our Righteousness, our sure Foundation,
Our Prince of glory and our King of love.

We go in faith, our own great weakness feeling,
And needing more each day Thy grace to know:
Yet from our hearts a song of triumph pealing,
We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.
Yet from our hearts a song of triumph pealing,
We rest on Thee, and in Thy Name we go.

We rest on Thee, our Shield and our Defender!
Thine is the battle, Thine shall be the praise;
When passing through the gates of pearly splendor,
Victors, we rest with Thee, through endless days.
When passing through the gates of pearly splendor,
Victors, we rest with Thee, through endless days.

Since it’s a familiar tune, your congregation would be easily able to sing it, or it could be done as a special, or even a choir piece.

Tune: Finlandia

In addition – there are other words put to the same tune: We Thank You, Lord.

Bonus:  here is a piano arrangement that works well as an offertory.

Psalm 37:4 – Delight Yourself in the Lord

A year ago, our church group had an activity of hiking a beautiful mountainous area, following which we had a picnic at the top.  During the course of time, we broke into a “singspiration.”  One of the songs that was presented was “Delight Yourself in the Lord.”

I love the words to this piece and the tune fits nicely with the lyrics.

Easter hymn/special music – Resurrection Anthem

Ever have one of those pieces that sticks with you (or maybe is like “meat-and-potatoes” [with apple pie on the side])?  This is one of those pieces.  It is amazing!   Praise to God for men who compose such works.

It comes as both a choir piece as well as hymn-style work.

This song reminds me of the Scripture passages of Genesis 3:15, I Cor. 15:14, and I Cor. 15:55.

Absolutely amazing piece!

I’ve found it!!!!

It has finally been found!!  Have you ever heard a marvelous song and then in vain, diligently searched to find it?  Recently on a trip, I heard an instrumental recording of “My Sin Is Ever Before Me.”  Wow!!  Those words gripped me!  If you have never heard the song, here is a link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHZ_5JC1G4o.

In recent contemplation has been the thought of how lightly the concept of sin is held in our society.  It seems so often, that we do not take sin as seriously as we should, seeing it as God truly sees it.  This song however, provides a truly humble reflection of sin.  The chorus is reminiscent of Psalm 51.  It is truly an amazing, reflective song.
